As per latest data release by Ministry of Agriculture, the sowing acreage of maize was at 9.17 lakh hectares as on 24th December 2010 , down 4% from the last year. The total sowing acreage of all coarse cereals was also plunged by 5.72% to 57.18 lakh hectares so far in the current year. This was mainly due to delayed harvesting of paddy crop in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Maize may experience bullish tendencies due to the same and also due to good demand from poultry feeds.
